Normal Development
Probably does not sleep through the night.
May spit up after feedings. Try frequent burping and leave your baby
in an upright position for 15-30 minutes after feeding.
May sometimes appear cross-eyed – this is normal.
Can lift his/her head for a few seconds when on his/her stomach.
Is beginning to gurgle, coo, and smile.
Moves arms and legs vigorously.
Follows a slow moving object with his/her eyes.
Smiles easily and spontaneously.
Sucks at the sight of breast or bottle.
Studies own hand movement.
Diet
Breast milk or formula is all that is necessary for your baby’s
complete nutrition. Do not add solids, cereal, or juices until at least
four months old.
Exclusively breastfed infants should be given Vit D and Iron supplements.
Skin Care
Use a mild soap like Dove or Aveeno.
Use only water to clean the face.
Clean only the outer ear. Never put a Q-tip in the ear canal. Wax
may accumulate in the canal, and if necessary your pediatrician will
remove
it.
Sunscreen should be used when outside: SPF 15 or greater.
Safety
Always restrain your baby in an appropriate infant car seat, facing
backwards and in the rear seat.
Never leave your baby on a surface from which he/she can roll off.
Even at this age he/she is active and may begin to roll or scoot
along the
crib or floor.
Never
prop a bottle.
Avoid holding your infant while you are cooking, smoking, or
drinking hot beverages.
Stay with your baby at all times while he/she is in the bathtub.
If interrupted during bath time, or while changing diapers on
the changing
table, put
your baby in the crib, on the floor, or in your arms.
Install smoke alarms on every floor and check the batteries frequently.
Set your hot water heater to 120°
Your baby should be sleeping on his/her back. Avoid pillows,
stuffed animals, and thick blankets in the crib.
